You may spot some smoke up in the local mountains near Idyllwild this week, but don’t worry it’s just some planned pile burning being conducted by fire crews.

Crews will be conducting the prescribed burn Monday, January 20 through Friday, January 24 just north of the Idyllwild Arts Campus between Red Hill Road and Highway 243. Officials say that while smoke may be visible, favorable weather conditions will see the smoke disperse quickly and it shouldn’t be a health hazard.

The burning of the wood piles is part of an ongoing Hazardous Fuel Reduction Project known a Red Hill VPM, which aims to suppress and reduce the intensity and duration of wildfires.
