Woman who tossed puppies in Coachella dumpster pleads guilty, gets jail time

A woman who was recorded on surveillance video throwing seven puppies into a dumpster behind a Coachella auto parts store in April pleaded guilty on Wednesday and will serve a year behind bars.

Deborah Sue Culwell will also be placed on seven years of probation in the plea deal reached with prosecutors, according to the Desert Sun.

Her case drew outrage in the Coachella Valley and throughout the nation after the video, recorded on April 18, was released. The puppies were taken to a foster rescue home for treatment, with one dying a week later.

An additional 38 dogs were found in Culwell’s home and turned over to rescue groups.
