Woman arrested for leaving dog in car outside of Palm Desert Whole Foods

A woman was arrested this weekend after police say she left a dog in a car in the Whole Foods Palm Desert parking lot as temperatures soared to well over 110 degrees.

Police were called to the lot about 3 pm on Saturday for a report of a dog in a hot vehicle, according to KESQ. A Good Samaritan was able to remove the dog from the vehicle before police arrived and it was turned over to Animal Services personnel.
Andrea Lawent, 59 of La Quinta, was taken into custody and charged with a misdemeanor count of cruelty to animals.

There was no word on just how long the dog was left in the vehicle.  Saturday’s high temperature in Palm Desert was 115 degrees.
