Video released of plane’s emergency landing in Mojave Preserve

Remarkably, two people were able to walk away after making an emergency landing in a light airplane just north of The 40 Freeway and Ludlow on Sunday. Now officials have released video from the plane and, well, wow.

The pilot of the plane said that they were enroute from Needles to Chino in a Beechcraft Sundowner when the plane’s engine lost oil pressure and stalled, according to a media release from the San Bernardino County Fire Department. With no airports around, the pilot was forced to make an emergency landing in a remote region of the Mojave National Preserve.

The pilot and passenger were uninjured.

Due to the distance from ground resources and the triple digit heat, it was determined the best course was to take the pair out by helicopter to the Barstow-Daggett airport to get them out of the heat.
