Two arrested for shooting, attempted robbery in Mecca

Two men were arrested on Thursday for a shooting and attempted robbery that police say happened in early April in Mecca.

Deputies with the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department responded to a report of an assault with a deadly weapon that occurred in the area of 7th Street and Dale Kiler Road on April 3, according to a news release.

The department says the suspects shot the victim in the abdomen after an attempted robbery, then fled the scene. The victim was transported to Desert Regional Medical Center, where he is in stable condition.

Deputies identified the suspects as Angel Valdez, 23, of Thermal, and Roman Segura Jr., 25, of Coachella. Valdez was located on April 6 in the area of Avenue 70th and Pierce Street in Thermal and taken into custody without further incident.

On April 09, a search warrant was served in the area of 50400 Block of Mazatlan Drive, Coachella. Segura was located at the scene and taken into custody without further incident.

Both Valdez and Segura were booked for attempted murder and robbery.
