Stolen truck recovered in Twentynine Palms, but someone torched it before the owner could retrieve

A truck owner, who must have been stoked to hear his stolen truck had been found in Twentynine Palms, is surely no longer stoked – as his truck was burned to a crisp before he could retrieve it.

The hay truck was found by a passer-by on Tuesday afternoon, reports Z 107.7.  That person called the number on the truck, who then called the Sheriff’s Department to let them know that they were the owner of the vehicle and that they were in Tehachapi – which is a bit of a trek.

A deputy went to the scene to investigate and had the truck towed to a vehicle yard at Mesquite Avenue and 29 Palms Highway until the owner could retrieve it the next day.

But, at about 4 a.m. on Wednesday morning, firefighters were called to a vehicle fire and, you guessed it, the very truck that had just been recovered was the one that was torched.

The hay truck’s owner arrived Wednesday afternoon, only to see that his vehicle had been destroyed by the fire.

Police deemed the incident as an arson.
