A Twentynine Palms man was arrested over the weekend when he made a bad situation, getting a traffic ticket, much worse by calling in a fake shooting to 911 as an attempt to get the cop issuing the ticket to leave.

Sergio Alvarez, 34, was pulled over near Homestead Drive and Lazy Joe Avenue on Saturday, for a missing rear license plate, reports Z107.7.

At some point during the traffic stop, police say Alvarez allegedly called the Sheriff’s Dispatch phone number to report hearing shots fired.  He had hoped that the call would lead to the deputy being pulled away before he could issue the ticket. The plan did not work out.

Thhe deputy confronted Alvarez and he denied making the call.  Then the deputy called the number that had called dispatch just moments prior and, voila, Alvarez’s phone began to ring.

Alvarez was arrested for investigation of making a false report.  He has since been released.
