The Coachella Valley could really use some rain

There is a possibility of rain in Palm Springs and the Coachella Valley this week (in addition to evening lightning shows) and, man, could the desert really use it.

The so-called “Water Year” ended on September 30 and the official rain totals for Palm Springs show the area only getting half of the normal amount of rainfall during the last 12 months.

Other cities also saw a significant dropoff in rainfall from normal – with Riverside only getting 34% of its annual total, San Diego just 32%, and Big Bear Lake coming in at more than 40% less of what it should see.

Scientists say that there is about a 70% chance of El Nino conditions developing this winter – which would bring a significant chance of strong rain numbers in the Coachella Valley and throughout Southern California.

Let’s hope so.  We need it.
