Tachevah, a concert held in downtown Palm Springs the week between Coachella’s Weekend 1 and Weekend will not be happening this year.

The Desert Sun newspaper, a sponsor of the event, made the announcement – albeit 5 paragraphs into a story about a “Tachevah Band Competition”:

While the block party in downtown Palm Springs has been suspended for this year…

…And that is all that is said about it.  Really.  There is no reason given for why the event will not be happening in downtown Palm Springs this year.  There is also no word on if the event in Palm Springs will return in 2017 or, well, ever.  There is a lot of info about some smaller shows happening, like the warm-up/competition shows of years past, but the cancellation of the big downtown block party sure seems like something people might want to hear about.

Tachevah has seen the headliners Passion Pit, Fitz & the Tantrums, and Kimbra in its 3 installments.  The event also featured local bands who won their slot in a a competition that took place in the weeks prior.  A few of these local bands were then offered a chance to perform at Coachella.

Here is video of Fitz and the Tantrums from 2014.

It is too bad.  Seemed like a cool event.

Maybe the local newspaper can dig up some answers on why it is not happening this year.
