Suspect leads police on high-speed chase in stolen newspaper delivery car in Yucca Valley

So this might just be why you received your daily newspaper a little late in Yucca Valley on Thursday.

As 107.7 reports, a man was arrested just before 3 am after police say he led them on a high-speed chase through the Hi-Desert in a vehicle stolen from a newspaper delivery person.

The victim was dropping off newspapers at a convenience store on Highway 62 in Joshua Tree about 2:15 am. While the driver was in the store, the suspect, later identified as Andrew Dick, 31 of Yucca Valley, got in the vehicle and drove off westbound on the highway into Yucca Valley.

Police spotted the vehicle on Onaga Trail in Yucca Valley.

Deputies attempted a traffic stop, but they say Dick sped off, leading police on a pursuit through residential neighborhoods at speeds up to 80 miles per hour, while running stop signs and driving in opposing lanes of traffic.

The pursuit ended when Dick’s vehicle crashed into fire hydrant at Amador and Paz.

He was arrested for investigation of grand theft auto, felony evading, and driving without a license.
