Southern California air is the worst air in America for the second year in a row. How wonderful.

The American Lung Association’s State of the Air 2015 reveals that many Southern California cities have terrible air quality including Riverside County, which received an “F” grade for both particle pollution and ozone levels.

And while the study revealed that Southern California has the worst air in the nation, the state has made some progress with clean air standards.  Unfortunately, weather conditions from the drought have caused an increase in particle pollution levels (your allergies already knew this).

“The State of the Air 2015 report shows that California’s clean air laws and initiatives are working,” Olivia Gertz, President and CEO of the American Lung Association, told CBS 2. “However, over 70 percent of Californians — 28 million residents — live in counties plagued with unhealthy air during certain parts of the year.”

The report recommends stricter air quality standards and better monitoring of freeways, ports, rails, etc. – as well as better public transit and an increase in people choosing to walk or bike rather than drive.
