A man was stuck in a San Bernardino storm drain for over two hours on Tuesday night after he went in it trying to retrieve his friend’s dropped cell phone.

It all started about 6 pm when Ronnie Wayne, 51 of San Bernardino, removed a manhole cover on a storm drain in a parking lot on Base Line and went into it, reports the Press Enterprise.

When the man realized he couldn’t get out, his friend went into a nearby store and bought rope.

The friend threw some rop to Wayne, who tied it to his waste, and the friend began to pull him out – until the rope broke and Wayne fell deeper in to the storm drain.

Finally, firefighters arrived, after another 40 minutes, they rescued Wayne from the storm drain.

“He was about three or four feet down. We were able to get a rope around him and pull him up out of the manhole,” Batt. Chief Gary Jager told KTLA. “It was pretty quick and easy rescue.”

Wayne suffered minor cuts and declined transportation to the hospital.

No word on if he found that phone.
