Riverside Co. man arrested after a passenger in his golf cart falls off and dies

(Riverside County Sheriff’s Department)

A 61-year-old man was arrested by Riverside County Sheriff’s officials after authorities say a passenger on his golf cart fell off and died on Friday.

Scott Sempson, 61 was driving about 10:40 am in Canyon Lake while passenger Roger Crocker, 49, was standing in the golf cart, according to the Press Enterprise.  Crocker fell and suffered major injuries. Sempson left the scene before deputies arrived.

Crocker was taken to the hospital where he died about an hour later.

Officials tracked down Sempson and arrested him on suspicion of felony hit and run.  According to California law, anyone driving a vehicle involved in an accident resulting in an injury or death must stop immediately at the scene. Not stopping is considered a hit-and-run.

It’s not clear if alcohol or drugs were a factor.
