Police shoot, kill mountain lion in Yucca Valley

(San Bernardino Sheriff's Dept.)

A mountain lion was shot and killed by police in Yucca Valley Tuesday night.

The animal was likely the same one that had entered a chicken coop on Monday, but was gone by the time police arrived. Deputies were called to the same home about 10:30 pm on Tuesday after the lion had broken through the roof of a chicken coop, according to Z107.7.

This time, the lion was still in the enclosure when police arrived, surrounded by several dead and injured chickens.  Police attempted to chase the lion away, but they say it did not budge.

A Fish and Wildlife officer advised the deputies to kill the lion as there were no other less lethal ways to stop the lion’s attacks and the animal posed a threat to area residents and their domestic animals.
