Police searching for 23-year-old Anza man involved in fatal hit-and-run

The California Highway Patrol announced they are looking for a 23-year-old Anza man who they say caused a fatal hit-and run and injured two police officers during an altercation.

Police are asking for the public’s help in locating Antone Wayne Bayard. They believe he is in Temecula or San Diego – with plans to flee to Mexico.

Bayard is suspected of taking off on foot after he allegedly caused a fatal crash in Aguanga early Friday morning, according to Valley News. Police believe Bayard was behind the wheel of a Nissan Versa that slammed into the back of a 1986 Toyota pickup at 6:15 am on state Route 371 near Wilson Valley Road.  After hitting the pickup, the Nissan veered into oncoming traffic and hit a Mercedes-Benz.

The driver of the Mercedes, 63-year-old Joan Terlisner of Aguanga, was killed in the crash. The two occupants of the Toyota pickup were not injured.

Details of the altercation with police officers were not given.  Anyone with information on Bayard’s whereabouts is asked to call CHP dispatch at 858-637-3800.
