Pinz & Pints, a bar with a duckpin bowling alley, has opened at the Westin Mission Hills

For those not content to simply sit on a stool and drink a beer at your local watering hole, you now have the option to enjoy a brew while bowling a frame or two, as Pinz and Pints has opened at the Westin Mission Hills in Rancho Mirage.

Now let’s be clear, the four bowling lanes at Pinz and Pints are not your traditional kind – rather they are duckpin bowling lanes that were originally created in the early 1900s and are now seeing a bit of a comeback. Duckpin lanes are about the same length as ten-pin bowling, however, the pins are shorter and the balls are a smaller size (a little bigger than a skeeball, with a similar feel. Bowlers of all ages can get in on the action for $6 per person, per game.

In addition to the bowling, the new spot also has arcade games, ten taps of beer, a full bar, and a menu with traditional bar items like burgers and nachos. But do be prepared, Pinz & Pints is located at a resort, so be prepared to pay resort prices for your drinks and food.

That aside, the wife and I recently had a couple of drinks and bowled a few frames and, honestly, it was a lot more fun that I at first thought “mini-bowling” would be. The family at the lane next to us was also having a blast.
