Phil Collins is back!
“I’m no longer officially retired,” he told Rolling Stone. “The horse is out of the stable and I’m raring to go.”
Now, Phil Collins is pretty damn great – and not just because of the amazing “In the Air Tonight” drum solo. The guy had a huge string of hits in the 80s and 90s including “Sussudio”, “”Groovy Kind of Love”, and “Against All Odds” – and that does not even include his hits with Genesis (seriously, it seems like Collins, Huey Lewis, and Kenny Loggins sang 99% of all hit songs in the 80s). But the man hasn’t released a new album since 2002 and even did a farewell tour years back.
“My kids are now 10 and 14 and they want to see what their dad does,” he told the magazine. “They love my music and I’d like to take them out so they can enjoy it.”
Collins said after the breakup with his wife in 2008, he “went through a few bits of darkness; drinking too much. I killed my hours watching TV and drinking, and it almost killed me. But I haven’t had a drink in three years.”
The singer moved to Miami to be close to his kids and built a studio in his house so he can begin recording again soon.
Good to have you back, Phil.
