Ginny Foat, a Palm Springs mayoral candidate, has been accused of assault and battery by the partner of another candidate after an altercation that occurred at a political debate on August 25th.

An attorney for Daphne Barak filed a complaint in Superior Court on August 31st. Via KMIR:

In her complaint, Barak, the partner of another Mayoral Candidate, Bill Gunasti, states that Foat campaign staffer Julie Montante assaulted her, “within the course and scope of her agency relationship and at the direction and in concert with defendant Foat.”

The complaint goes on to outline the alleged attack – accusing the two women of 1) assault 2) battery 3) intentional infliction of emotional distress and 4) negligent infliction of emotional distress – and more.

Barak’s attorney did not confirm that Foat had been served yet.  Once served, she has 30 days to respond.

Foat, a Councilwoman for the city of Palm Springs, is running to replace outgoing Mayor Steve Pougnet who is not seeking reelection (probably because of PouGhazi).  The Desert Sun reported that Foat met privately with Pougnet and the developer who paid Pougnet $200,000 worth of consulting fees, Richard Maeney, about a planned development in Palm Springs.

Palm Springs politics is the weirdest.
