Back in April, Palm Springs Mayor – and avid Cactus Hugs reader – Rob Moon had publicly called for the ouster of the city’s ridiculously overpaid City Manager, David Ready. The Mayor then voted to keep Ready – making the vote of the city council unanimous – but now, just a few months later, Mayor Moon wishes he could have a Mulligan.

“I wanted the City Council to go on the record,” Moon told the CV Independent. “I did then vote to endorse the city manager, but I regret that vote. I should have stood my ground and at least made a symbolic vote against it.”

Who knows, maybe he will vote the right way next time? Or maybe the time after that?  We shall see.

As far as the insane salary of the City Manager, the Mayor had some thoughts on that too.

“That’s probably a good idea,” Moon told the newspaper when asked about a cap on salary for the position. “… But if there is a cap, perhaps a person who has been around a long time would not like it and would go to work in a big city, like Chicago.”

The highest paid employee for the “big city” of Chicago makes $300,000 per year – or about $120,000 less than David Ready makes as the City Manager of the small city of Palm Springs.

Someone might want to pass that along to the Mayor, maybe the next time you see him buying shoes in Palm Desert?
