Just one day after the FBI raided Palm Springs City Hall, Mayor Steve Pougnet has hired a lawyer specializing in “white collar crime”, reports The Desert Sun.

Sacramento-based attorney Malcolm Segal confirmed that he has been hired by Pougnet – but he would not clarify anything else involved in the PouGhazi scandal from when he was hired to whether investigators have questioned his client or what the investigation is even about.

Segal’s website lists his qualifications:

Malcolm Segal focuses his practice on defending businesses and individuals in white collar criminal investigations and complex civil litigation, including civil and criminal fraud litigation, tax fraud, securities, health care fraud, qui tam litigation and environmental enforcement matters. He has long participated in internal corporate investigations, professional and fiduciary liability litigation, employment and tort cases, class action defense, real estate and contract litigation.

Pougnet is expected to attend a regularly scheduled city council meeting this evening.  No word on if he will address PouGhazi.
