Emergency crews responded to an explosion on Sunday at Knight’s Inn in Palm Springs caused by someone trying to manufacture Butane Honey Oil (aka hashish oil) in one of the hotel’s rooms.

The explosion was reported just after 1:30 pm Sunday. When authorities arrived they saw the room’s four occupants nearby in the parking lot – a man, woman, and 2 kids from Cathedral City. All were taken to a nearby hospital with both adults and a teen in critical condition.

I am not an expert on hashish oil, so I will let KESQ fill you in on the details:

According to authorities, the process of extracting THC from marijuana to manufacture BHO is a dangerous process. During the process, marijuana is tightly packed into an extraction device, and during different purification methods, butane (flammable gas, odorless, colorless, and heavier than air) can evaporate out of the substance and collect on the floor, accumulating to explosive levels without proper ventilation.

No further details were released.
