‘Operation Desert Impact’, a major police operation targeting gangs, guns and drugs in Desert Hot Springs launched in the early hours of Thursday morning.

Authorities were seen gathering at the city’s police station at 5 a.m. – with about 30 officers on hand in tactical gear, according to the Desert Sun:

Groups of officers approach at least four homes, but it did not appear they had to force their way inside. Reporters at the scene saw two people taken into custody at two different locations, but it is unknown how many homes were targeted or if any arrests were made.

At a house on Cahuilla Street, police arrested a shirtless man with a large “DHS” tattoo on his chest. The man was handcuffed, then led into the back of a police car. Before he was driven away, officers allowed a young woman – who was crying – to lean into the car and kiss the man goodbye.

“I love you,” she mouthed before they drove off.

More details about the raid will be released during a press conference today at 11 a.m.
