One dead in fiery single-vehicle crash in Rancho Mirage

A person died early Saturday morning after a SUV caught fire following a crash.

The vehicle was engulfed in flames when it was spotted by a Rancho Mirage police officer about 12:10 am Saturday, according to the Desert Sun.

The officer tried to put out the fire with a fire extinguisher and a fire crew was called in to assist. A person was found dead in the White Ford SUV. The identity of the person has not been released.

According to police, the FORD was speeding on Morningside Drive and failed to stop at a stop sign on Country Club Drive. The vehicle then crashed into the gate of a maintenance yard.
