It all stems from Secret Service having a detail at Thunderbird Heights, where the Obamas have stayed before, plus friends of the Obamas, designer Michael Smith and former U.S. Ambassador to Spain James Costos, returning to their Rancho Mirage home after being in New York:
On Sunday, U.S Secret Service agents stationed in the Rancho Mirage community wouldn’t identify who they’re providing security for, but neither Costos nor Smith’s entourage includes a Secret Service contingent.
Representatives for the Obamas didn’t respond to a request to confirm a new Coachella Valley visit. No supporters were outside Thunderbird Heights, unlike previous visits when large crowds gathered to see the sitting president or when they gathered there on President Donald Trump’s inauguration day to catch a glimpse of the Obamas, who flew from D.C. to Palm Springs with Smith and Costos after Trump took the oath of office.
