March for Our Lives event set for Palm Springs this Saturday

Thousands of people are expected to rally across the nation on Saturday in the March for Our Lives protest to advocate for gun control. The biggest rally will be in Washington DC, but there will also be marches in cities around the country including in Palm Springs.

The event is scheduled to begin at 10 am at the Palm Springs High School Football Stadium located at 2401 East Baristo Road. There will be student speakers at the stadium, a “march with gratitude to the Police and Fire Departments” and Palm Springs City Hall (where there will be more student speakers), and a return to Palm Springs High.

Things are scheduled go until 12:30 pm. All ages are welcome at the event.

March for Our Lives will mark the second big push of teenage activism against gun violence in the wake of the mass shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida. Last week saw millions of students participate in walkouts at schools across the country and the Coachella Valley to protest gun violence and honor the victims of the school.

“School safety is not a political issue,” organizers state on the rally’s website. “There cannot be two sides to doing everything in our power to ensure the lives and futures of children who are at risk of dying when they should be learning, playing, and growing. The mission and focus of March For Our Lives is to demand that a comprehensive and effective bill be immediately brought before Congress to address these gun issues. No special interest group, no political agenda is more critical than timely passage of legislation to effectively address the gun violence issues that are rampant in our country.”
