A Desert Hot Springs man was hospitalized after being shot five times after he confronted a man who police say may have been trying to steal his motorcycle on Sunday morning, according to police.

The victim, who was not named, was taken to Desert Regional Medical Center after the shooting, reports The Desert Sun. Desert Hot Springs Police Chief Dale Mondary confirmed the shooting with the newspaper, but did not offer a location other than to say it was north of Little Morongo Road and east of West Drive.

The condition of the victim was not reported.

A 22-year-old, who also was not named, was arrested in connection with the shooting. Police say the man fled on a different motorcycle following the shooting and led authorities on a chase before being arrested near Indian Canyon Drive and Garnet Avenue.
