Man driving a U-Haul with nearly a ton of marijuana arrested in Anza

A man was arrested on Sunday after police say he was driving a H-Haul with nearly a ton of marijuana inside.

The truck was pulled over at Route 371 and Kirby Road because it didn’t have a front license plate, according to the Desert Sun. The driver was questioned about the pungeont smell and told the CHP officer he planned on selling it to local marijuana stores. The officer determined the man did not have permit to sell or cultivate cannabis.

Justin Phillip Martel, 31, of Miami, was and charged with possession of marijuana with intent to sell, a misdemeanor, and driving with a suspended license.

A CHP spokesman told the newspaper that the 850 pounds of marijuana inside the truck had a street value of close to a million dollars.
