Man arrested for trying to steal money from City of Palm Springs bank account

Police arrested a 35-year-old Victorville man on Friday after they say he tried to access a bank account belonging to the city of Palm Springs multiple times in an attempt to steal money and open lines of credit.

Ryan Carter was taken into custody on Friday about noon in Victorville. According to a news release, items “related to identity theft and fraud were discovered and seized.

Police say Carter, who is not a former employee and has no connection to the city, made multiple fraudulent attempts to access a city bank account in an attempt to steal money and open lines of credit.  The city’s treasurer notified police of the attempts in April.

Investigators are trying to determine if Carter targeted other cities or victims.
