Man arrested for assault with a deadly Weapon on a Palm Springs police officer

A man was arrested on Thursday night after police say he threatened Palm Springs police officers with a knife and tried to hit them with a vehicle.

Officers responded to a report of domestic disturbance about 8:50 pm at an apartment complex on Rosa Parks Road, according to a news release. They located the subject, identified as Roberto Mendoza, seated in the driver seat of a vehicle.

As deputies approached the car, they say Mendoza threatened them while holding a knife. He then put the vehicle in reverse and tried to hit the officers with the car.

Mendoza’s car was surrounded and, after an hour, he surrendered and was taken into custody.

He is charged with suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon on a police officer and threatening a police officer, police said.
