KMIR is now NBC Palm Springs

Local television channel KMIR will now go by NBC Palm Springs.

The station made the switch on Sunday evening with an announcement following Sunday Night Football and an update to their website and social media pages:

The television station has been known as KMIR since its first to broadcast in the Coachella Valley on September 15, 1968 – which means the name change comes on the 50th anniversary of the channel. It has been an NBC affiliate from the start.

Outside of the new logo and name, the rest of NBC Palm Springs appears to be unchanged.

I thought all stations went by their FCC call letters. In fact I know they do. This is some bs branding.

There is so much advertising junk on these pages, you can’t discern anything worthwhile. Good bye.

What a bummer. You seem like so much fun too! This is a big loss for us.
