Jury Awards $1.9 Million to California Woman Burned by Exploding E-Cigarette

Woman Burned by E Cig

A Corona woman was awarded $1.9 million dollars by a jury Wednesday after she was badly burned by an e-cigarette.

Jennifer Ries and her husband Xavier were headed to the airport in March of 2013 when she plugged in her VapCigs e-cigarette charger and it spewed hot metal that ignited her dress, her attorney Gregory Bentley said.

Xavier doused her with an iced coffee to extinguish the flames – but, Jennifer received second-degree burns on her buttocks, thighs and hand, according to the lawsuit.

Due to her continued pain, Jennifer is unable to sit for longer periods of time,” the lawsuit says. “Jennifer … remains permanently disfigured from the second-degree burns and will likely require (surgery) to diminish the scarring.”
