Whatever happened to all those Hooters that were coming to the Coachella Valley?

Hooters

In 2014, a press release stated that “multiple Hooters restaurants” would open in Palm Springs, Indio, Coachella and Cathedral City beginning in 2015.  As we are now into 2016 without a single Hooters having been opened, one has to ask: is this still a thing that is happening or did plans for Hooters in the Coachella Valley go bust?

“Hooters is currently looking for the perfect site for the new location which will include strong retail synergy, great accessibility and visibility,” Mark Whittle, senior vice president of global development at Hooters of America, told Cactus Hugs in an emailed statement.

The Desert Sun reported back in 2014 that the Indio location was planned for the Northgate development at Jefferson Street and Country Club Drive and would open in 2017, so it looks like there is still time for that location.  There has been no word on any possible spots or opening dates for locations in Palm Springs, Coachella, or Cathedral City.  There were also rumors that the chain would open at the closed Elephant Bar location in Palm Desert – but a “for lease” sign currently stands out front of the building.

If and when Hooters does open in the Coachella Valley, it will be for the second time.  The wing chain once had a restaurant at the intersection of Highways 111 and 74 (complete with a putting green!) – but, that location eventually shut down.  A Starbucks is now located there.
