High speed train from SoCal to Vegas expects to be running by 2022

>Your trip to Las Vegas might just get a little easier as planned high-speed train between Southern California and Las Vegas is back on track.

Brightline, who operates rail service in Miami and Ft. Lauderdale, has has acquired the rights to a federally approved rail corridor along Interstate 15 from XpressWest, according to ABC 7. The $7 billion project is expected to begin next year with completion of a Las Vegas to Victorville route happening in 2022.

“Today those travelers are limited to traveling by air or car, and Brightline expects to offer a convenient alternative that will make the trip in less than two hours,” the firm said in a statement (via New York Times).

The plan is for the route to be extended to Los Angeles at a later time and, who knows, maybe one day they will extend it to Palm Springs since Lord knows the Coachella Valley will never get a Southwest route to Las Vegas.

And while it would still require a drive to Victorville, it would be nice to relax and have a beer on a high speed train for a large part of your trip to Sin City – and to maybe catch some z’s on your way back home.
