A cat surely used up at least one of his nine lives in Santee this week as it survived an eight mile ride stuck in the bumper of of a car.

Gnocchi the cat — yes, the cat’s name is Gnocchi — somehow got into the bumper of a car. The owner of the car, a neighbor of Gnocchi’s owner, then went out for a drive completely unaware that she had a passenger. Luckily, some Good Samaritans waved her down and, after prying the bumper open with a crowbar, Gnocchi was saved.

After being brought to the shelter for an evaluation, Gnocchi’s microchip led to a reunion with his owner.

“I’m just so grateful that he survived and he is OK,” Gnocchi’s owner Carolyn told the Union Tribune. “Today he’s acting like nothing happened.”
