Drivers stop on California freeway after family throws cash to honor dead loved one

Traffic was worse (and crazier) than normal on Monday in the Bay Area as drivers stopped their cars on the freeway to pick up wads of cash thrown out the window of a vehicle that was on its way back from a funeral.

Family members told KTVU that they had thrown $500 – all in $20 bills – out of their car on Interstate Highway 880 as their way of honoring the man who died.

The family said the tossing of the cash was an “Oakland thing.”
