Desert Hot Springs man arrested for attempted murder

A 33-year old man was arrested on Monday in Desert Hot Springs for a shooting that sent one person to the hospital the previous day.

The Desert Hot Springs Police Department had been pursuing Jeffrey Grant Hammer, Jr. following a shooting that happened Sunday afternoon on Eighth Street, according to a news release. At approximately 10:12 am on Monday, detectives received information that Hammer was hiding at a location on Seventh Street.

Officers arrived at that location and Hammer was taken into custody without incident. He was booked into the Banning Jail for attempted murder. He is being held in lieu of a million dollar bail.

The victim of the shooting has not been named. Police say he is currently receiving treatment at Desert Regional Medical Center.
