A piece of the 2018 Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival is headed to downtown Indio.

“Supernova,” a large, multi-colored star will be installed on a lot on the southwest corner of Miles and Smurr after the Indio City Council voted to acquire the art piece this week, according to the Desert Sun.

The piece will be provided to the city free of charge by Goldenvoice, the promoter of Coachella, but the city agreed to pay for installation of the installation, which should be about $35,000.

A few weeks ago, it looked like “Supernova” was headed to the city of Coachella, but the city preferred the “Etherea” installation, which is a bunch of wires in the shape of cathedrals, instead. The piece will also be given to Coachella for free by Goldenvoice, but they will also be on the hook for about $35,000 to install it.

The city of Indio is interested in acquiring more pieces from the fest in the future to create an “art walk” in town that they believe would draw tourists.
