Chula is serving up delicious breakfast and lunch and is the real gem of La Quinta

Pork Tacos served at Chula in La Quinta

Chula Artisan Eatery in La Quinta may not have the most visibility when it comes to those driving by on Washington Street, but, for those who have found it know, they are serving up some really tasty breakfast and lunch items five days a week.

You will find Chula in the mostly business complex just south of the Cinemark Theaters building on Washington Street. Chula is basically in the back of the building that is also occupied by Louise’s Pantry – in fact, the two restaurants share a bathroom. The spot was previously a couple of BBQ joints and a Mexican restaurant and maybe five other things that I have forgotten about.

I was told about Chula by a bartender at another La Quinta restaurant (bartenders know so much!) and so the wife and I ventured out to check out the place, which opened up earlier this year – and well, check out these, tacos, man!

Dude, these tacos were amazing. The pork was perfect, the salsa was great, the tortillas were dope af, and normally I’m not a big guac guy (I know, and I am a Californian), but I ate it all right up because it was amazing.

At Chula, everything is made from scratch, locally source, and the whole menu is farm to table. I should also mention, it’s freakin’ delicious.

You can peep the menu here. It includes breakfast offerings like chilaquilas, pancakes, huevos rancheros, and, for the first time ever, I was actually interested in ordering steel-cut oats at a restaurant as Chula makes theirs with house-made tres leche cream, sugared pecans, and local berries add, seriously, just put it in my mouth already.

If you are in the mood for lunch, Chula has that too with tamales, tacos, an amazing shrimp cocktail, and “Grilled Street Corn,” grilled sweet, organic corn with mayonnaise, queso fresco, parmesan, chile powder, scallion, and lime.

Oh, and you can wash it all down with a Michelada or two if you like…

The prices are a tad bit higher than you might find in nearby breakfast and lunch spots, but it’s also not bad at all when you consider everything is farm to table – with everything on the menu coming in somewhere between $10 and $17.

The atmosphere of Chula is nice, the staff is on it, and they also sell baked goods like cookies, bread pudding, and chipotle brownies.
