The members of Cathedral City’s City Council just gave themselves a big fat raise – but then wouldn’t we all vote to give ourselves a big ‘ol salary increase if we could (why don’t we have that ability btw?)?
The council voted 4-1 to increase their pay 47.7 percent, from $791.08 a month, to $1,168.79 – which will be an extra $22k and change for Cat City taxpayers to dole out each year. And this money is well-deserved for the city council. Just look at the amazing things Cathedral City and its leaders have allegedly done the past few years:
- destroyed downtown with a colossal failure
- fired a bunch of cops and firefighters
- got catty with each other on Facebook
- spent $92,000 to travel the country
- purchased computers with city money
Obviously, these people have earned this huge raise. The Desert Sun quotes one of the council members in favor of the raise:
“The wealthy shouldn’t be the only ones that sit in the position of power,” said Councilman Sam Toles. “It really does require compensation (that) is fair.”
Yes!!! Of course, it is the low salary that is keeping the non-wealthy out of power. Everyone knows its not about having wealthy campaign donors (hi Koch brothers) and a desire to sit through boring 3 hour non-sense meetings – although the $92,000 worth of traveling around the country and low cost computers do sound nice.
