A student at Northern California high school is facing battery charges after an altercation over a MAGA hat.
Jo-Ann Butler, a 17-year-old senior at Union Mine High School in El Dorado, became enraged at a classmate for wearing the MAGA hat. Video of the incident show a teacher attempting to subdue Butler during the incident, which began when she grabbed the hat off his head.
“That’s a racist and hateful symbol,” Butler told CBS Sacramento.
In addition to being arrested, Butler was suspended from school for a week. The The El Dorado County District Attorney is still deciding whether she will be formally charged, with a decision likely coming this week.
