Going to Las Vegas us great. Actually getting to Las Vegas, not so much. The freeway can get packed, there is nothing to do or see (except for the brief glimpse of an abandoned water park and a tall digital thermometer), and the only way to get there is by car (why PSP can’t offer cheap direct Vegas flights is beyond me). But, you may have a new option in the not too distant future: a bullet train.

A U.S.-China joint venture was announced on Thursday with plans to build a high speed rail between Victorville and Las Vegas.

Cost of the project was not announced but The L.A. Times reports that the rail would whisk passengers between the High Desert and Vegas in a brisk 80 minutes at a cost of $89 per passenger.

There was no announcement as to when the project would be completed – though Quartz cites Chinese newspapers as reporting that the project will take 3 years and cost $12.7 billion.
