A bunch of out-of-towners have registered to vote on Measure C in Palm Springs

Next week, Palm Springs residents will vote on Measure C – which will decide the fate of vacation rentals in the city. And while typically these sorts of things are voted on by actual residents of a city, the Desert Sun had a look at the voter rolls and surprise! – a bunch of LA and OC residents are suddenly registered to vote in the Desert.

Of the 128 vacation rental owners who registered to vote in the Palm Springs June 5 election since the beginning of the year, 18 of them listed a permanent or mailing address in the city. The rest listed out of town addresses, many of which were in or around Los Angeles, San Diego, Orange County and San Francisco. A few listed mailing addresses out of the country.

And while a bunch of people from out-of-town deciding the fate of Palm Springs’ neighborhoods might at first seem strange, it really does seem to make sense since the city clearly cares more about TOT money than representing the people who actually live there.
