5 things that need to happen with the new casino complex in downtown Cathedral City

(Google Maps)

The Agua Caliente Band of Cahuilla Indians are building an “entertainment and gaming district” in downtown Cathedral City. No plans have been released yet for the 13 acre project which will be built on the northwest corner of Date Palm and East Palm Canyon.  Despite no one asking me for them, here are five requests for the new development.

1Fix East Palm Canyon Drive

A popular entertainment complex is going to bring in a lot more traffic. Downtown Cathedral City can’t even handle the existing amount of cars passing through. This should probably be worked on first.

2Run a shuttle service

Reduce traffic and DUIs.  The Palm Springs Buzz is great.  Let’s extend the route to Cathedral City and beyond.

3Enough with the bullshit events

It seems that pretty much anyone who wanted to host an event in downtown Cathedral City has been approved over the past few years – which, with nothing else to do downtown, why not, I suppose.  But, that time appears to be over so maybe it’s a good time to start saying no to anyone suggesting a Caviar Festival.

4Make the casino smoke free

Our local casinos smell like ass. All of them. It’s awful.  So, let’s have one casino that doesn’t!

5No Tommy Bahama

While downtown Palm Springs is trying to be like sleepy, old El Paseo by bringing in Tommy Bahama and El Corso, the downtown Cathedral City project should look to the future and bring in new, exciting and fresh options for dining and entertainment.

Thanks in advance to the Tribe and Cathedral City leaders for making sure these things happen.  Appreciate it.
