The weekend is nearly here, temps are starting to cool off, and we are smack-dab in the middle of that magical time of the year when Oktoberfest and Halloween events are abound. A couple of those are featured in this week’s picks below, while Van Morrison at the Show and Brian McKnight at Morongo are not – because they are sold out and why tell you about something you can’t go to?

Desert Daze

The fest has performances from Iggy Pop, Spiritualized, Courtney Barnett & Kurt Vile, John Cale, Panda Bear, Eagles of Death Metal and more.  The four-day event takes place at The Institute of Mentalphysics in Joshua Tree and kicks off on Thursday with tickets starting at $99.

Haunted House

The River in Rancho Mirage is now home to a haunted house. Parkwil Manor Presents: CarnEvil is opening up on Friday the 13th next to Babe’s Bar-B-Que and Brewhouse.  It will then be open Wednesday through Sunday nights with a $10 admission through Halloween.

Oktoberfest

It’s the 2nd Annual Oktoberfest at their Palm Desert Brewery on Saturday at 2 pm – which will included live music from Hazelnuss (a Bavarian band!), authentic german eats and German-style beers – plus your ticket gets you a collectible stein to drink all that tasty beer in!Advance tickets are $10 here (it’ll be $15 at the door).

The Living Desert will highlight Hispanic culture with games, live music dancing, scavenger hunts, crafts, face-painting, food, and more on Saturday from 9 am to 1pm. It’s also a zoo, so you know, animals will be part of everything too.  The first 1,000 guests get a free pepper plant grown at The Living Desert.

The Living Desert is also doing a promotion this weekend where you get one free child admission with one paid adult admission.

The 11th annual honors and remembers family and friends diagnosed with breast cancer. The festivities help raise money for those uninsured or underinsured to get screenings and diagnostic services to prevent breast cancer, while also supporting prevention education.  The walk begins at 8 am on Saturday.  Registration is $25.
