5 things to do in Greater Palm Springs this weekend

It’s the last weekend of February.  No seriously.  The month has already flown right by all of us.  It’s going to be a hell of a weekend for hiking, with temps only in the 60s! (seriously though, just go out to the Coachella Valley Preserve or Indian Canyons and enjoy!), and, after you are done with the trails, you might want to check out some of these things happening in Greater Palm Springs.

Date Fest – Thru Sunday

It’s the second weekend of the Date Festival and this is the one with the demolition derby.  There’s also a ton of food (mostly deep fried), Lou Gramm with Foghat, giant doughnuts infused with Fireball whiskey, and plenty of rides to make you puke.

The Music of Abba – Friday

If all those commercials for Mamma Mia 2 you have seen during the Olympics have you up for some Abba, you’re in luck as a tribute to the group rolls into The Show at Agua Caliente Casino on Friday night.  Tickets start at twenty bucks.

Peter Cetera – Saturday

He is a man who will fight for your honor. The one-time Chicago frontman will bring his Karate Kid soundtrack magic along with the rest of his catalogue to Spotlight 29 Casino for an 8 pm show. Tickets run $45 to $65.

It’s Magic – Sunday

The McCallum Theater has a Sunday matinee full of magical goodness.  The show features Las Vegas headliner Xavier Mortimer and his unique modern magic plus finalists on America’s Got Talent 11 year old magician Kadan Bart Rockett and his 9 year old sister Brooklyn.  There’s also Murray Hatfield & Teresa, high energy inventive comedy magician Eric Buss and magical host Chris Blackmore. Tickets start at $17 for the 3 pm show.

Yes.  There is really a Ukulele Fest taking place this weekend in the desert.  And not only is it happening, it’s actually kind of a big deal amongst ukulele fans – with tons of performances, workshops, vendors, and more happening at the Palm Springs Hyatt.  Tickets to the events start at $35.
