5 things to do in Greater Palm Springs this weekend

Damn.  January has just flown by, yeah?  Here we are, already at the last weekend of the year’s first month.  It’s also the first weekend without football since the temperature was 122 degrees outside.  Temps should be nice, Highway 111 should be crowded as hell, and, if you are looking for something fun to do, there are plenty of offerings in Greater Palm Springs.  Here are five of them.

El Gato Classic – Friday & Saturday

The event – which brings together music, art, and skateboarding – returns for a fourth year. A free art exhibit will take place Friday night at the Hard Rock, followed by skate sessions at the Palm Springs Skate Park on Saturday, and then back to the Hard Rock for a concert on Saturday night with One Less Zero and His Eyes Have Fangs.

Adam Sandler – Friday

The comedian is doing standup comedy Saturday night and he’s bringing friends .  Slated to join Sander are Rob Schneider, David Spade, and Nick Swardson at the Special Events Center at Fantasy Springs in Indio for the 8pm show.  Tickets range from $79 to $139.

3 Doors Down – Friday

The rockers head to Cabazon for what they are calling an acoustic “back porch jam.”  Tickets are sold out.

(Morongo Casino Resort Spa)

Howie Mandel – Saturday

The comedian, America’s Got Talent judge, and onetime St. Elsewhere doctor heads to Rancho Mirage for an 8pm show with Preacher Lawson.  Tickets are $35 to $55.

Free Day at the Museum – Sunday

The Palm Springs Art Museum will be for free to check out all day Sunday as part of the Southern California Museums 13th annual Free-For-All initiative.  You can check out a wide variety of art mediums and subject matters, including: Michael Childers: Having a Ball, Montgomery Meets Modernism: Two Americas, Grass Roots: Native American Basketry of the West, and No Glass Ceiling!
