Nipton, that tiny town near the California-Nevada border that you see listed on a sign you drive by at 100 miles per hour on the 15 on your way to Las Vegas, is going to be transformed into “an energy-independent, cannabis-friendly hospitality destination,” after being purchased by a cannabis company. Yes, a weed company bought an entire town!

American Green Inc. announced Thursday it is buying all 80 acres of Nipton. With the purchase, the company will own an Old West-style hotel, a handful of houses, an RV park, and a coffee shop. The company plans on pumping a few million dollars into the community to make it a pot-friendly tourist destination.

A new facility to manufacture water infused with CBD is also planned, according to the Review Journal.  CBD is the cannabis component that is typically associated with reducing pain and inflammation. There is also a production site for edible marijuana products, retail stores, and artist-in-residence programs.

“The Gold Rush built this city,” project manager Stephen Shearin told the Cannifornian. “The Green Rush can keep it moving the way people envisioned it years ago.”
