A man and a woman turned themselves into authorities to face charges related to the human trafficking of a minor, The San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department announced.

In June of 2015, deputies located a female juvenile that was abandoned in the desert near Twentynine Palms, reports KESQ. Police then conducted an investigation that led them to three additional victims, all adults, who the Sheriff’s Department claims were allegedly targeted by a man and woman from Twentynine Palms.

26-year-old Kevin Akins and 22-year-old Aubrei Wilson lured young females from outside the area, including Ohio and Texas, with the promise of a romantic relationship. But, once the victims arrived, they were made to work as prostitutes – according to police.

Authorities served search warrants at six locations in Twentynine Palms and Palm Desert in September, including hotels and a “brothel in a residential area”, but did not find the suspects.

Then, on January 17th, the pair turned themselves in to police to face charges of human trafficking of a minor and a charge of sexual exploitation of a minor.
