The TV Segment on the Palm Springs Restaurant Eliminating Tap Water is Pretty Ridiculous

The saga of Johannes Restaurant, the joint eliminating tap water in favor of $1 imported bottles, took a hilarious turn on Thursday night during a weird news segment on KESQ.

The TV station interviewed the restaurant owner and chef “taking a stand against restaurant water wasters”, Johannes Bacher. In the interview, Bacher complained that it is against the law for him to use the water a customer may leave in their drinking glass to cook his food with (sounds like a pretty good law there) – but that he may “think about” using the water remaining in a bottle left by a customer to rinse dishes with before putting them in the dishwasher – because sure he will (also, if that is legal, couldn’t he currently be doing that with the unfinished tap water?).

The TV station said that “many applaud” Bacher for “taking a step in the right direction” in helping with the drought – which, really? Who? Seriously, tell me who? But others (i.e. everyone) think this is kind of ridiculous. “I think taking tap off your service menu is not really helping the drought, it’s just another way to add something to the ticket,” Palm Springs resident Patrick Kilian-White told KESQ.  Note: Bacher may have a Freudian slip about “sales” :30 into the video below.
