Palm Desert woman faces 2nd-degree murder, DUI charges in fatal golf cart crash

A Palm Desert woman who crashed into a golf cart in Thousand Palms on Wednesday afternoon, killing two men and two dogs, is suspected of second-degree murder and driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol -according to the CHP.

Angela Lavantry, 32, was arrested shortly after the crash. Authorities believe that she was under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs at the time of the collision, reports KESQ.

Police claim that Lavantry was driving over 50 mph in a 25 mph zone on Desert Moon Drive approaching Colonial Drive when she struck a golf cart with her Mercedes SUV from behind.

Both men in the golf cart, as well as two dogs, died at the scene.

Lavantry is being held without bail in Indio at the Riverside County Jail.  She is scheduled to appear in Riverside County Superior Court on Friday.
